I have a six-seven year old son that is going to "BIG SCHOOL" next year. His been so good and brilliant about everything we do together. We spend lots of time together and I know he looks up to me and loves every moment of our time. We love playing computer games and it's always a major negotiation who's going to work/play on the laptop tonight.
I installed one of my old Pentium PC's in his room, but it's falling appart. So, here's the deal: When he goes to BIG school we decided to get a new device built for gaming. At the moment we are heavy into debate about what to get. Should we go for Xbox 360, PS2 / 3 or a fat gaming PC?
We definately are not going for the portable because he saw what happens to his friends and their portables - they loose them, drop them etc. and then it's major drama in the house.
As a dad I'm voting for something that could handle the cool games but also be used for his school projects, but that's not a major because we'll always have a laptop or PC in the house because I earn my living on them.
He likes adventure style games like Sonic the Hedge Hog, Spy vs. Spy etc. but I'm sure he'll get into any adventure, fast moving game.
What console do you recon would be the better option for a little guy like him? Keep in mind daddy would still have to buy the games for him, because pocket money goes to sweeties...

I am also very confused on which one to buy this festive season. My friends suggest to for Playstation, but I am interested in XBOX. I have 3 children aged between5 and 12 years. We have a XBox and there are a lot of games that the kids all enjoy. I must admit the 5 yr old is a lot better on it than I am in terms of co ordination! We also use it as a DVD player if some of the discs won't play on our regular DVD player. The only thing I would like is the singstar type game (kareoke)which XBox don't seem to have available. My opinion tends to lead to the PC, but if you will always have a pc or laptop available to him for schoolwork, or even gaming.........then go with either the XBOX 36o or try out the new Nintendo Wii.......I heard on one of the morning talk show programs, that it is intendend to be interactive to get the kids up and moving and motivated, instead of just sitting and playing games.......I dont know much more than that about it, but it would certainly be worth looking into.......it is quite costly, but so are all the others. I personally want to own the new XBOX 360, I currently have an XBOX...but now their not making any new games for it...because of the 360......but now my interest is really peaked with the Nintendo. Sony said that the PS3 was going to be a generational leap, but it doesnt seem like that to me. Look at the graphics compared to the Xbox 360, its basically the same thing. The SIXAXIS controller bugs out on its own, plus you have to keep plugin it in to the system and take it out to use the wireless feature everytime you turn it on. Plus it has 8 freaking CPU's but it cannot multitask, not even custom tracks. The Wii seemd really fun, but you need money inorder to actually have fun with it. The batteries only last 20 hours max. The classic controller connects to the Wii-mote and contribute to the battery power life. The graphics arent that much big, but u can expect that from Nintendo. They could have atleast made it a little more detailed, only a handfull of games look clean. Most of the games are inresponsive to the wii-mote and that makes the game boring. There is no online multiplayer and wont be any for quite sum time. The 360 has been out for a year now and i've seen tons of games that are good for it. personally I would get that if you do not own it already. The controller is better, the graphics are clean, the frame rate is generally good for most games, good backwards compatibility, the best online multiplayer availible, and what more can I say. A kick butt PC. The main reason why. He'll be able to play kick butt ganes but also you it to learn and to enhance his education. The games for PC's are also generally cheaper. My son turns 7 the 27th of December. He loves to play educational games on his PC. He will play them from the time he got up till he went to bed if I would let him. My son is in the first grade, I also homeschool my kids. But he is working on second grade science and math already because of the educational games that are out there. well, i think you should get him the Nintendo Wii...its meant for family play and of course young children. PC games are alright, but the Wii is a lot more interactive..you could also get an older PS2 with an Eye Toy...those are also interactive and pretty fun to play..we don't have any of those yet, but my son loves the demos at the store and he's only 4. I want to told you only one think. Every games it doesn't matter for what console is. Is made on a computer. Plus that computer may help him on school project. i bought a xbox360.. i thinkits the best because u can burn games from the computer if u hav ''flashed'' the 360 .. if u wana kno its ez to get instrutions on the internet but afterudo it ucan download all agmes n paly them on the 360.. i hav about 10 games for the 360 for which i paid 0$ for.. besides the cost of the blank dvds which is like 30$ so thats like 3$ per game.. not bad! for the ps3 however its a lil bit harder cuz u hav to get it modded somehow and very hard to do it urself unlike xbox360.. also ps3 uses blu-ray discs [Khangura]
