How Old Is Too Old To Play Video Games

People from all over the world love playing video games but when do you consider yourselves mature enough to leave the gaming world? If your young or in your teens it is understandable that you love playing video games. When your in your 30's or higher some people would tend to say stuff like "Your too old to be playing video games.", "At this age you should set your priorities rather than playing video games" and "Get a life, go out and have some fun in the real world." Well for my opinion, anybody no matter what the age, just as long as your enjoying and you still know the difference between the real and the virtual world, can play video games. What is your stand on this issue?

I don't think theres any age to play for playing. Its also some form of entertainment.Anyone can enjoy it. But I don't know why ppl say that computer games are only for small children and old ppl should not play it... [madugulagopi]
i agree but there is no reason to stop playing games or otherwise life would be very boring :D [parmdeep]

there is no limit. even an old men also can play. as his/her eye sight still good. [david_koct]
yeah old age hinder gamers in doing their thing. [hexeduser22]

There is no limit , everybody can play games , boys girls , old , young . In a few years I'll still be playing video games and might be looked down by the rest of the gaming community as being old [Metabie]
Legend, would be a more fitting word rather than being looked down =) [hexeduser22]

I think during old age, when the body is in a bad shape in terms of weak eyesight and various other health conditions ,its the right age to stop playing computer games.Just imagine a 100 year old human being playing computer games with cringed eyes trying to see which spot to shot at and shotting the wrong perosn in the game with trembling hands :D ...But ofocurse a game suited for senior citizens would be possible, that makes me wonder are there any such video games ? Even though he may love to play video games at that age,its advisable that he doesn't ! [chosen9]
I think this is where reality sinks in. The situation you've stated is exactly what I meant when I said "knowing the difference between the real and the virtual world" [hexeduser22]

Hello happy I agree with you, it doesn't matter how old you are. If you enjoy playing games then there is no reason not to carry on. I'm in my late 40's and play games, not regulary as I never seem to have the time but I enjoy playing when I can. A friend of our family is 65 and she oftens plays her Playstation 2 lol There are good reasons to play as well, you get some 'escapism' from the daily life, it helps keep your reaction times quick and above all it's fun happy [sunnysmiles]
Yes that would definitely be considered as one of the advantages of video games. It is a very good stress reliever but could also bring you stress at certain points. [hexeduser22]

I agree with you I think if you are having fun playing video games then that should be your perrogative. Have fun and enjoy life. [patriciaqualls]
Yes that is very true I had an ex boyfriend that would play world of warcraft for 10 hours straight and when he had a day off it was all day long. But if you know when to stop playing the video games then it shouldn't be a problem. When you don't know when enough is enough then it can cause problems in the future I guess. [patriciaqualls]

I think the Wii has revolutionized gaming in the sense that now there is no taboo against who can or cannot play games. I'm in my early 20s but have been playing games practically all my life. I really don't see myself growing out of them because of the vast genres and the fact that they're fun and challenging. Its like with ratings - people constantly think that games like Pokémon or Sonic are just for kids because they're rated E, yet games like Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts and tons of others share that rating and are embraced by older games. In the end, nobody can judge you in terms of your age and whether or not you play video games. You don't outgrow things like board games right? You still play them now and then. Same with video games. Its almost like a movie experience except you're totally involved in it. [randomreviews]
Nice analogy and we cannot deny the fact that video games are very addicting [hexeduser22]

There's no limit! My mom is 59 years old and loves to play video games. For christmas she asked me to buy her a Nintendo DS and she's still using it everyday or so [clasprea]
Wow that's amazing! If you have the time you can be whatever you want to be in video games [hexeduser22]

Hmm, I think there isn't such a thing as too old for video games. You don't really stop playing, you just get restricted due to certain factors like loss of interest, forgetfulness, a decline in sensory performance and so on. You could still go out, get a life and have some fun in the real world (as quoted) and yet spend time at home playing video games. There's a lot of time in one's hands specially if you're single. It's a lot more fun if you've got kids to play with and it would be great being able to reach out to your children and fill the generation gap if you've kept at playing these games and being child at heart at the right place at the right time. Some games also slow down the progression of old age by keeping a person's senses sharp as when that person was about 5 or 10 years younger. That's quite an benefit one could get from playing video games. Just remember to stand up, walk around and breathe some fresh air once in a while. [forptc]
Playing games is much more fun when playing with relatives, specially with your children, it somehow helps to develop a bond within the family when you share and enjoy the same things. [hexeduser22]

You can't be too old for games just like you can't be to old for movies. [Bionicman]
You can be a child over and over again in playing video games. It could be very nostalgic [hexeduser22]

Well it's said that when you are crazy about something in your young age you might lose interest on it when you grow older. But if you never try this before you might start be crazy about it no matter what age you are. For most of young people they play video games a lot but naturally they wouldn't play it at all when they grow to 30's i think. My hubby is such a case . He just played too much in the past now he has no interest at all. [grace118224]
Every now and then people tend to explore new things and have fun yet I think it is much more enjoyable to rekindle the feelings you've you felt in playing a certain video game. Then it is much more fun when you and your hubby would enjoy exploring new things in video games, I think, right? [hexeduser22]

There is no age limit on how old you have to be to stop playing video games. They are enjoyable at all ages, My grandmother happens to be a big fan of PC games....in fact she often whoops my butt on the combat games LOL She is retired and has the right to play games if she wants. I think its silly to put an age limit on games...how else are we supposed to relax and take a short 'escape' from the real world? i guess you could pick up a book (i do often enough) but its not the same [LilDemonlady]
Yeah the enjoyment you get from reading a book is somewhat different from the enjoyment you get from playing video games. Children also read books as much as the adults and I guess the idea would also apply to playing video games [hexeduser22]

Your never to old to play video games! Unless your jobless, homeless and don't have a drive for life, than ENJOY! [prikayjo2436]
This is good. Playing video games is more enjoyable when you have a goal or good view in life in spite of being old [hexeduser22]

I also love playing video games and almost everyday play because I'm young now.I think video games are young people's games.Playing video games are bad to our eyes and when we play an hour,we feel very tired.Old people can't endur this. [yuhongchao1981]
Older people's performance when playing, I think, cannot be generally compared to the performance of the young one's. You just have to know when to quit. [hexeduser22]

I think that 25 is too old for video games. I think that by the time you reach your thirties you should have a job and a family to care for. By then video games should be something your kids play with not you. Besides it's much better getting out there and living your life and taking care of your family. right? [doglady112]
That's good point. But for me you can still play, that of course if you still have the time, it could develop a bond within the family specially when your kids love playing video games. I think the only difference when playing video games as a responsible parent/husband/wife and playing video games as a young and single individual is the time devoted to playing. [hexeduser22]

I don't think there is an age limit to play video games. I play it and my parents also enjoy playing it. I had a thought previously that video games and cartoon moviese are only for kids. But, when I got introduced to the world of them I started liking it and used to play evern now and then. Playing video games appears to be a stress breaker for me. [daliaj]
Yeah more and more games are designed to benefit their gamers [hexeduser22]

"your too old to be playing viedo games " and"At this age you should set your priorities rather than playing viedo games" will said to you if you are play it when you are no longer young. But I think ,play viedo games is good for your health. You can go on with it! have a nice day. [jscaz1314]
Anyone can be young, its either your young or young at heart [hexeduser22]

There definitely is no age limit. There are so many different types of games available. You can learn a new language, improve your skills, learn to cook, role playing, driving, sports etc. There really is a game for everyone. My husband and I play with our Wii and our DS's, along with our 9 year old daughter. I would stil play video games at the age of 90. [realan]
Very well said. Your not only enjoying your also learning. [hexeduser22]

I used to think that video games are just for kids but then when the PSP, PS3, Nintendo came out then older people started to get into it, too. I think age doesnt matter anymore as long as youre not neglecting your responsibilities. [rg0205]
OMG! YES! LOL! It's Duckhunt! I loved that game hehehehe [rg0205]

i totally agree with hexeduser22. The last time i saw a 50 years old man who friend's dad of mine was playing a computer game and i was a bit surprised. I thought that only young people or teen would like to play game but since gaming in present day has developed so much, graphic got better and better make every one want to jump to buy new release game. Do you guys know the latest strategy game? I like strategy game very much, especially Empire total war came out. Any one has tried it yet? What your experience with this game? [vuluc1989]
Now a days I don't know much about the latest or whats hip and I haven't tried playing Empire total war but definitely I love playing strategy games. Ill sharesome inputs if I can grab myself a copy [hexeduser22]

I think that everyone can play video games, as long as they enjoy it. Also, it's all good and fun as long as you do your responsibilities. No one has the right to tell us that what we're doing is wrong if it doesn't hurt anyone or break the divine rules. You should enjoy life to the fullest, and it's your choice on what you want to do. [KaraKATAD]
Thank you for choosing my response. ^^ Have a good day and happy mylotting~ [KaraKATAD]

the age to stop playing video games is when you can no longer understand what is going on in the game. [vladigibbs]
yeah that's very understandable [hexeduser22]

there is no time or age limit to play video games this is my view. the only thing is interest,In my childhood I have seen some of my friends are not interested to play games. Now some of my friends are interested to play video games. that is the differece. I think. thank you. Keep myloting. [vidyasagar00729]
Got a point there. It is somehow a matter of interest and lifestyle [hexeduser22]

I agree with your opinion. It doesnot really matter what you age is.You just want to enjoy the game and playing always brings the best in you.And i know of a community of video gamers , and i have seen quiet old peeople playing too, and i did not find anyone having a problem.Besides, everybody have freedom to do whatever is ok with society.Well,as far as video games goes, age is no bar. Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]
This is so true. Thanks for sharing [hexeduser22]

I think there is no age limit for someone who love playing video game, it,s about hobby and pleasure , i think we never let other people blocking our hobby, as long as playing video game not harm our selves or other i htink it,s normal, without the need to look at how old we are : ) [adiel35]
You got that right! [hexeduser22]

I don't think you should ever be too old to play video games. Having fun and playing games is what will keep us young. [sender621]
When it comes to health playing video games is beneficial just don't over do it. [hexeduser22]

Is there really an age limit to playing? Its like saying that you should bury the child in you.Haha for me its more like play appropriately to age.Lets say a married, working full grown man is not good to be seen playing video games all day. [sage09]
Being a responsible individual you should definitely lessen time allotted to playing video games [hexeduser22]

I really don't think there is an age where people should stop playing games. Obviously there comes a point where people should stop playing games all day and actually work for a living and play games more casually than before. I think gaming only really becomes a problem when someone is obsessed with gaming and really makes it their whole lives. [highflyingxangel]
Obsession is really bad not for gaming alone but in all other aspects as well [hexeduser22]

in my opinion i never think its too old for someone to do what they enjoy. I plan on playing video games until my joints freeze up due to authritis. If it something that lets you just relax and enjoy yourself i dont thinks there is a minimum or maximum age. I've been playing since my hands were big enough for the controller. Playing video games with my friends has always been an enjoyable hobby for me. Now if it was something like collecting action figures then i'd put an age cap on that [bibbyboy12]
What a passion for gaming! Just keep enjoying and be the best that you can be in both worlds, virtual and the real world [hexeduser22]

I agree with your opinion. You can never be too old to play video games as long as it doesn't become an obsession. I think that anyone who tells another that "you're too old to play games" or anything like that is someone who doesn't care for games at all, and is probably an opinion that should be ignored. Everyone has a hobby, and some people's hobbies just so happens to be playing video games. I mean, why stop doing something you love and find fun because someone thinks it's juvenile? Besides, I think that playing video games when you're older would be a nice way to deal with stress. And depending on what games you're playing, it could be a nice way to keep your mind sharp. [strikezero86]
Nicely said. Nothing more to add you've said it all [hexeduser22]

i think for middle age and seniors they can play video games once in a while, like they shud just casually play games not to d point of gaming 4hrs nonstop.. now that's for teens n children. I think it wud not be apropriate for them 2 immerse themselves in a game coz they have responsibilities n priorities in lyf.. well just my thought ;) [Titus0902]

I started playing games at the age of 18 and you won't belive that from that time I started thinking that I am too old to play video games and I must leave this asap but still I am a big fan of it at the age of 28 inching towareds 29. So, I would say that as long as your eyes permits you to play games, you can play! [sanuanu]

whoever said that is just plain envious! lol! i am more than 40 and i play games in the net. in fact, i am addicted to many games and even use cheat engines to beat my opponents! i am as wily as these younger generations. mostly, i am in the first place in ranking in their games! try to beat me first before they say i am too old for these games, i say to them! ... and they can not! lol! [lafayette]

I will play video games all my life. It is an important part of life, but not all. [lavex99]

Now my age is near 30 still I play video games. There is no age limit for video games. I will play video games till I die. My parents always tell me that your not a child so don't play video games, i don't listen to them. If I play games it relieve my stress, strain and pressure. Playing games is good for health but don't become addicted to it. [ezhilpa]

I think that your never too old to play video games. With the new game system "wii" out you can play video games that are both fun and educational, and that are for any age group. As long as you have a few interests in video games, it doesn't matter if your young or old... [SomeCowgirl]

This is a really good discussion and I know that a lot of different people have different opinions when it comes to video games, and whether they are good or not,I know that a lot of people like video games, while other people think they are a waste of time and cause nothing but violence, and I know that everyone is different, and that everyone has different opinions, ideas, and preferences, and I am twenty four and I love video games and I have a friend who is twenty six and loves video games, and my wife is twenty two and loves video games, and I will always love video games, and I imagine that when I am eighty I will still be playing video games, because I do not think you are every too old to play video games, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting. [hellcowboy]

To me there is no age of being to old to play video games. :) My dad still plays video games once in a while and he is 49 years old now. Some people tell me that I am too old to be sitting around playing video games. [anthony89]

Hi Hexeduser, Absolutely you are right, most of the peoples used to enjoy their time by playing the favorable Video game and age does not related with this habits and also most of the young kids and adult more interested to play the Video games in order to spare their time in the good manners. Most of the recent survey would indicate that the video games are played by adult than the kids, due to the matured peoples used to play this game better than the kids. So the age is does not the matter to play this video game and also most of the adult would always need to enjoy their time on playing the Video games. Have a nice day. [Binthu]

I am now 47 and when I am stressed out there is nothing better than a good old video game to help me relax and reduce stress. Have to add its the nice non violent ones here of course but I would not just throw the few computer games I have into trash.. only cause someone thinks I have outgrown them. [book1962]

Man my dad is about in his mid 50's and he beats me completing games faster than i could, lol. And im the unemployed one and he's a contractor. He just sets his time aside for gamming after work. Where as i procrastinate all day about doing something practical, or sleeping. lol [knightarchonis]

Hi there hexeduser22 There is no such thing as too old to play video games, look at me I am 38 years old and in some people's eyes that is old but certainly not too old to play video games!!lol [Humbug25]
How about when you are 80 years old? Would you still think the same?lol [hexeduser22]

The idea behind playing games is for fun and relaxation. The older generations want to have fun too. No one is too old to play video games. I play a lot in my laptop. have fun! [manong05]

I agree with the majority on this issue. Videogames are a source of entertainment, and no one is too old for that. Videogaming replaced all forms of TV entertainment (TV shows, movies, etc.) for me starting with the Nintendo 64. To say I'm too old or I will get too old to play videogames is like asking my grandparents, "Aren't you too old to be watching TV still?" They prefer TV and my husband and I prefer videogames. We play videogames a few hours a day together and yet still have time to cook all of our meals, my husband works full time and I own and run a real estate business, exercise, do other hobbies (write, art, read, etc.), my husband goes to an online school, housework, etc. There are people who are addicted to videogaming...then again, you can't say there aren't people who are addicted to TV. To say addiction or the maturity/lack of maturity applies to one form of entertainment and not the other is absurd. Great discussion! [LovingLife139]
I wish I could have commented earlier on this one. You have provided a very well described stand on this discussion. I hope you are still lotting. I would love to hear more from you [hexeduser22]

I would say, the older you are the better you will play. I play video games all the time. Well, recently my PC crashes whenever I start a game. I do not know what the problem is but am trying to find it out. However, I will never stop playing video games. I have loved them since I started and will be some 10 years back and I am continuing. I can spend whole days playing games. The multiplayer which you can play with your friends are great, but single player games also rock. [sagnik42]
Haha we have a lot in common when it comes to video gameslol [hexeduser22]

I do not think that you are ever too old to play video games as long as you like them and are having fun. They have actually done studies that show that video gaming helps improve hand-eye coordination and helps to keep your mind sharp, as long as that is not the only thing that you do all day every day. If you keep your gaming to an appropriate amount of time, then I think that it is definitely a good thing to do. If a child is allowed to play video games, then I definitely think that parents should play those video games with their children. It not only helps the parents learn and understand what things the children like but also it is a family bonding opportunity. I think that parents should interact with their children in other ways, too, but video games are one aspect of that interaction. As the video game generation becomes older, I bet that you will find grandparents playing video games with their grandchildren. In fact, some of them probably already do this. Therefore, I do not think that you are ever too old to play video games. [purplealabaster]
I think that an appropriate amount of time is enough for you to relax, have some fun and enjoy playing the game but not so much that you ignore other things in your life and do not do the things that are supposed to do and avoid taking care of your responsibilities because you are addicted to the video games. You need to have a decent balance in your life, otherwise you might miss out on the good things in your life out in the real world while you are consumed by virtual reality. [purplealabaster]
