I'm 25 years old, recently married and I still like playing games although not as much as I used to. My husband on the other hand, is a genuine game buff. He'd spend every little spare time he has to play video games, online games, computer games, etc and sometimes I think he'll be like that until all his hairs fall out and he can't move his fingers. Some people say that he's too old to play games, I say that sometimes too... but then he always defends himself by saying there are much older people still playing games and most of them are usually pretty smart. really?
How old do you think is too old to play games? why?
[question posted by yona06]
responses and comments:
I think we are never too old for gaming. Playing is very important. We have to find some time everyday to play. [andben]
Hi, jhartana.. you are the first one to almost agree that there is an age too old to play games. I'm sorry to say that at this moment I agree with the majority :) I think it's nice that you listen to your wife and play less, it shows that you appreciate her. If you can still carry out your responsibilities in a good way I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind at all that you play games. Maybe.. you can even influence her to play with you so she can enjoy it too :) [yona06]
You can never be too old for gaming. I still play games and i am 35. I also own my own Nintendo DS Lite and PS2. I find playing games is a great way to relieve stress. I've had many a fun hour playing games with my children on our Nintendo Wii. [littleone3]
Hi littleone, thank you for your response. I too thought that way. My dad used to play the PS with me when I was younger. he was around your age that time and he was a hardcore player. But then he eventually stopped because he was busy working and now he's telling me and my hubby that we're too old to be gaming, and we don't eve have any children yet. I used to disagree with him, but some how what he says is getting on to me. [yona06]
Well,I think there is no age limit to play games. Be it a 10 year old,or a 70 year old, both are feeling relaxed and cooled after playing games. So,definitely I don't think one should stop playing games just because he became older. As far as it reduces your tiredness and happiness, you can play games for ever. Cheers ! Good day to both of you. Happy playing games.happy [98765m]
Thank you for your response. The problem is, for my hubby, he's so addicted to playing games he just doesn't know when to stop. He can play till dawn and, rather than reducing his tiredness, he ends up so tired and sleepy when he wakes up. [yona06]
OMG Why is 25 too old to play video games? My husband is 27 and still plays. We know people in their 40's that play. In fact, if you look at current gaming number, the largest group of gamers is people over 30 who grew up with video games. Even most people in the industry that program them are over 30 now. There is nothing wrong with people playing video games at any age. [sedel1027]
No. There have been a lot of news releases on the topic in the last year or so. There was a really large one out around christmas. I bet if you google age range for video games you can find the articles. [sedel1027]
Okay, I'm 32, and my husband is 30. We've been married for 12 years. He loves video games, computer games, etc. So do our kids. I really think that he will enjoy them forever. That being said, he plays much less than he used to, because he just does not have the time that he used to have. Does it bother me? Nope. I knew I married a gamer, and with the new technologies coming out all of the time, it does not surprise me that he is still one. The funny thing is, his dad (who is like almost 50) used to hate video games. Now he has an X-Box 360 and he plays all of the time. lol I think they are a good stress reliever, and its not a big deal. [quiltedblessings]
That's nice to know. thank you for sharing. I wonder if I can persuade my dad and my in-law to play games too? any tips? lol... [yona06]
I don't think there should be an age cut off for games. If your older and still can enjoy playing games then good for you just don't go over board with it. [sassygirlanne007]
i am 34 and still on gaming, i am waiting for the day where my two year old can play with me too. gaming release tensions, in keeps me away from thinking too much about work when i am at home. i think as long as you can still push those buttons. as long as you are still enjoying then there is no way of stopping. we still need to be a child at heart even we are matured. [se7enthbird]
Hi.. that's exactly what my husband always says. that he needs to play to keep his mind off work. but sometimes i think he keeps his mind off work and being a child at heart just a bit too long, lol. [yona06]
I don't think you can be too old for video games, they are fun and good for hand/eye co-ordination, I don't see anything wrong with playing them as long as they do not consume your whole life because as you get older you have kids and grand kids and things to do with your kids, but if you got no kids and you have time and that is what you like doing then go ahead, i don't see the big deal [wannameetya]
Yes, I agree on that. gaming is certainly good for hand/eye coordination. come to think of it.. I think I had better hand and eye coordination when I was gaming a lot more often. Thank you for your input. [yona06]
Well,we can play games at every age,Playing games could relax us and I play games when I have spare time,I love PC games, and mobile games.thanks for your discussion [Petercheung]
I think their is no age limit on gaming, you know? I mean a game is a game, fun is fun, and you like it, you like it you know? That is like saying once you get old or older you can no longer play video games. I will always love video games. Why? Well you know they are fun and not addictive but I'm sorry I can't figure out the word but they're fun. [koikoikoi]
is gaming fun? yes, I do agree with you on that. But is it not addictive? I'd have to disagree :) For some people, it's just hard to stop once you feel the pleasures of gaming, lol. I've had my times of addiction to gaming too :) [yona06]
I guess nobody can be too old for playing games. My fiance is also a hardcore gamer and he's so contagious that I'm playing a lot of games too.I was thinking of the same thing about him (the way you thought about your hubby).I think he's going to play until he's too old and can no longer see clearly.and I believe people who usually play video or online games are pretty smart.I know because he is pretty smart.I think the reason for that is because they do a lot of strategy on how to make their characters strong and how to defeat a heck of a monster or a very strong boss.So I guess it develops logic in our brain. [TifaLockhart]
You do have an interesting point. I have noticed that the gaming community mostly consists of people who are more to the nerdy/geeky side :) My husband is a bit of a nerd himself. Thank you for sharing your view. [yona06]
im 39.. my husband is 29.. our daughter is 8.. and this entire house games. yer never, or shouldnt be anyways, too old to play and have fun, regardless of whether its eq, wow, coh, twister, chess, d&d, hide & seek or tag. being "mature" so that you feel yer too old to play, is having one foot already in the grave. whats the point in that? [tessah]
That certainly is an interesting way to look at it :) I guess having fun really is one of the secrets to staying young. Thank you for your response. [yona06]
Didn't You see the DS Ads aimed at Mothers for Mother's Day?happy I was on www.playandwin.co.uk for a while and with the onsite chat function was chatting with folks in their 50's,etc...You're never too old to play-You get old when you stop playing! [ShepherdSpy]
Well, I don't think I've seen those ads. I guess there really isn't any age barrier for games then. Thank you for the info. [yona06]
I don't think you are ever too old to play. My husband is 30 and I will be 30 next month; we both enjoy video games still. We play Rock Band together on the Xbox 360. My husband doesn't play in every spare minute though. He plays at night after we have had family time and have finished doing whatever needs to be done like errands. I don't mind that he plays; at least I know where he is and he doesn't ignore his responsibilities. [moneyandgc]
I agree that it is better for me knowing that my husband likes to stay at home, even though he spends his time playing games. I know a lot of women with husbands that go out all night not knowing where they are and what they're up to. Thank you for your response. [yona06]
well i say theres no age limit on gaming to me , ill always play video games , like right now , i dont have the funds as of now to spare for the lastest Next Gen console, so i play my oldies like my super nintendo , not all the time but sometimes , rarely at that when i dont have anything else to do , so i guess you can call me a casual gamer..but if i had the money to buy the games i would always be playing them [Gesusdid]
You don't have to have the latest next gen consoles to play fun games. I think the nintendo was fun enough for me :) But being able to play the newest games is actually one of the biggest motivations for my hubby to do better at work and find more money, lol. Thank you for your response. [yona06]
I am 35 myself and I still play online games and I also have a ps2 game console. My best friends husband loves playing games all the time and he is older then i am so i don't think there is really a ago of being to old myself. [Shaun72]
If you like it every age is acceptable, it can sometimes be really helpful to get loosen up from the hard everyday life... and it will prevent Alzheimer in more older ages because it keeps the brain active. [Mythion]
I am not sure about gaming preventing alzheimer but I do know that making your mind work hard and think alot at an older age is proven to be alzheimer preventive and playing games does make your mind work(certain types, I guess strategy games, puzzles, and general games that require concentration, thinking and such are good). [Mythion]
You're never too old. The upper age range of gamers is just going to get higher because my generation grew up playing them (I know my friends had a Nintendo when I was 8, although we didn't get one until I was 11 or 12). My husband is almost 32 and spends most of his day playing video games. We have an xbox 360, a PS2 and a game cube along with 2 computers and I'm still hoping to pick up a Wii sometime this summer. I am 31 and still like to play games on the computer. Mostly sim type games (the Sims 2, Sim City, Zoo Tycoon...games like that). I used to love other games but anything with fast moving 3D graphics gives me motion sickness within a few minutes and I throw up (I really loved that Lego Star Wars game but it made me so sick to even watch it). [4monsters4me]
I am 30some odd years old, and I love playing games, mostly online games, and playstation games, depends on the gmes, I am more of an arcade game person and word game person. But my favorite gaming sight is Pogo, and I on there I like some of the card games, cribbage, board games, arcade games... but I like I game called phantom vision where you set of fireworks things like that I realy find that stimulate my mind. If you like gmaing try Pogo.com I bet youll find something you like and you can find other people you like to play with for partner games. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
I will most definitely check out that site. Thank you mooch. [yona06]
the time when you do not want to play games beacuase of many other things, maybe you can make excuse just like this [dengquan]
I think the age is not defend on playing games. That is given us HAPPY. So happyness is to be a rason to lead a healthy life. [sahan2u]
never too old :) your husband is right! my mum is twice of your age, still plays video games everyday. I can tell you she is very smart and lovable. [popocan]
never too old for gaming...it's good for the mind, and coordination skills...the only issue might be if it takes more money or time away from family or personal responsibilities...then..well you might want to cut back a little...or fit it into your regular activities so it becomes a asset... cbiznetz [cbiznetz]
I think game is for all people, if you want to relax, you can play a game even if you are a kid or an adult. So, the game is verry important in the people life, because it help us. [bbcszone]
hi yona i'm 33 and still play at game ;) I have no more time for this but in my free time i like to play pc for strategic games and playstation for sport games. I think that there aren't one age for stop to game. [maurino75]
I think the life is the big game that we have to play over. So gaming don't have limit old to play. [pooh08]
To some people, gaming is a hobby, and i don't think anyone should be too old to do their hobby. I'm 27, my husband's 30, we still play games, although not as much as we used to now that we have other obligation to do. But if we have the time, why not? Gaming can be refreshing and it's no different than if someone has a hobby of reading,..instead of reading, we play games. [ucancallmedissy]
i am also 25. i stiill play some games. i play like arcade and timemanagemet games mainly. i think there should not be limit that who should play and who should not. i think its ok to play games. [subha12]
when it comes in gaming, i think that everyone becomes young again regarding their age [rhane7315]
i think there is no right age as to when you should stop doing what you like to do. if you are a gamer.. then go for it even if you have grandhildren.. it keeps you away from stress then it must be healthy for you... as long as everything is in moderation, you dont neglect things just so you can play a game.. then it should be fine. [chiyosan]
i'm 39 and i still play.. i think it's good for hand/eye coordination. as long as you take it in moderation and don't play every waking hour, you're never too old. [scarlet_woman]
You are too old to play games when you are DEAD. No more pulse, can't see etc. I am a 38 old mommy and I still LOVE to play when I can (never these days but that does not mean my heart is no longer in it). I can't wait to be able to play with my kids. [svitanovic]
Are you ever too old to do something you enjoy? No. You're 25. I'm 26. I play video games daily. There are people in their 30s and 40s playing video games. Do what you like to do. Who cares what other people say about you being too old for games? [Marcola]
I'm 26 and I have been playing games for as long as i can remember. It keeps me entertained, my mind and problem solving skills sharp and I can out-react a 9 year old. I think there's a lot to be said of the merits of gaming. [DukeOfDesmo]
No one is ever too old for gaming. Its just another way people enjoy their free time. TV, radio, music, comics, reading, manga, going outside, drinking, sex, blogging... people have their outlets. One can say some people could take it way too far, but that should only happen if hobbies are visibly destroying the life of the person. If not, there is no harm. If that doesn't get it across how about this? Those other people, what do THEY do with their free time? Hmm? Lets play hardball. If they watch TV, they need to stop watching before they become emptyheaded couch potatoes, or shallow couch potatoes. If they listen to music (especially today's "music"), I say quit listening to garbage... your time is better spent elsewhere. Comics? Grow up. Soaps? Same deal as TV, quit watching... empty nonsense anyways (and add "grow up" to that too). Sex? Keep it in your pants. Even going outside... if you don't do much out there, then what's the point. Time should be spent doing something according to you and your friends. That example was to illustrate a point. It all depends on perspective, and in the end people are just throwing stones from glass stones. Its YOUR time and YOUR life. Its HIS time and HIS life. Or does any of this not count anymore? -_- There are other older gamers playing because they enjoy it (yes they are out there... open your perspective a bit). The same for all other hobbies out there. And some games do require thought (puzzles, RPGs). Other games require reading skills (RPGs, a few action titles) Then there are games that require much more input, thought, reading... can't really be called games (game makers, visual novels, programming scenarios) [theprogamer]
no one is too old for gaming BUT... if you dont know how to manage your time then i think you need to grow up. a matured person knows when to play and how long he is going to play. your husband needs to grow up (lol). he can play if he wants as long as he knows his limitations and of course does not neglect you. that sounds fun you can play with him but up to a certain limitations and also in a given span of time. [roniroxas]
Its never too late to play games. Just the old generation did not known realy big potentiality of internet and computer and this is big mistake i think. [cednik]
Im 28 and I play my fair share. I play less since we had kids but that is because the games are getting so no kid friendly. I think if I had the time I would play a lot more so I guess my family keeps me busy. My hubby is an addict and it drives me nuts, He has suggested we buy a second Xbox 360 so we can both play at the same time. I think he should just hand over the controller. [happythoughts]
I will be 57 years old this year and still play games. I have to confess that I still love playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my battered old Sega MegaDrive and I often play against my 22 year old son too. You are never too old to play games and thoroughly enjoy them too. [recycledgoth]
hi yona06, how's your day? happy anyway, i think age doesn't matter in gaming, no age is limited to enjoyment and being happy. thanks for posting and sharing this....rolleyes cheers and God bless... [delgar]
there is no age on video games i say even the really old can play a video i maen if some old folkz homes the have the WII. [busta1]
I think there's no age limit as long as you can play the game. My husband is 31 years old and his addiction is playing games online. He has a brother who is 2 years older than him who also plays the same game. There's no problem with me if he plays the game as long as he knows his priority and time management. [reejane]
You are never to old to do anything at all. When you start thinking you are to old to do something, that means that you are BECOMING older....and i'm sure you dont want that!! Games are part of our lives, we watch stupid quiz shows in TV to kill time, theese are games, and extremely stupid ones too, in wich we dont even have a part in the playing field..yet for common belief its ok to kill your brain watching them. I think one should do whatever the helle he likes to do, as long as it doesnt damage others. And people spitting nonsense like "you are too old to do this and that" ARE INDEED DAMAGING YOU with their stupid, acritic, thought. Soryy if was a bit hard..i just get trasported away ;) [Postrock]
Well, I'm 40 (closer to 41) and I still enjoy gaming. I regularly (once a day) play Battlefield 1942 and a few of the mods for it. For me, it's a great stress reliever to jump into a tank or airplane and lose myself, if even for just an hour. Also, I've made a great many online friends while playing and actually flew from the east coast to the west coast for a three-day lan party! Had a blast and met "face-to-face" many of the guys and gals that I had only met online. [WNCKen]
Never. I love playing games. Sometimes when I was stress, I Play games to make my stress go. So even if I am 50 or 60, I will never tired of playing games. lol How old is your husband? Maybe I am older than him, so his theory will be correct. [hcpoirot]
I think you are never too old to play a video game, at a certain age (about 30) i think you just shouldn't play it for a really long time anymore. It isn't good when ur still addicted when ur 30 or so. [belzer123]
Your never too old..trust me, i seen a 60-year-old man walk into a gamestop not too long ago, and asked if he could purchase a wii..The store clerk asked if it was for his grandson or something, and he gave the clerk a weird look and said "This is for me! Gotta get my hands on that wii sports!" That literally shocked the hell outta me.... [MetalGearz]
i think nobody's old for playing... everybody has their own way of enjoying life and playing games... as for me, i think i'll play even with my children's children as long as i live... life is to be enjoyed, for it's really not that long enough. [aiyreen]
I guess if you still have the time to enjoy video games, then you're not too old for gaming [gunbladespecialist]
I'm 20 and like to play video games. My boyfriend will be 32 at the end of this month and loves to play video games and Everquest (an online game). He plays that everyday for hours. I don't think there is really an age limit to video games. If you like to play them and your 50 then play them. It helps take stress away and keeps your mind off of bad things that may have happened in your life recently. [reene0225]
well, as other said, i don't think age could/should/would stop someone play games (i think we're only talking about computer/video games). On the other hand, one must stop playing a game when there is no time to play. I mean, i know a lot of people who play games instead of doing homework, they play games, et cetera. :) So, there is a time when one must grow up and set aside the PC/video games, but not entirely. :) [thebeing]
Depends on your gaming system! Some games are for kids/teens, as adults won't understand it- XBOX360 maybe. Wii is for all ages, 'cuz of it's family related atmosphere. [iamevilman]
you can never be too oldd to play games!!! [nonamecc79]
If you have a passion for video games, and it is something that brings you joy,and excites you, then I think you are never to old to play video games, because video games are a lot of fun,and a good way to relieve stress after a long day. [hellcowboy]
I think you can play games as long as you want.Maybe a 100 years old man wouldnt like to play a shooter game like Half-life,but he can still play games like, solitaire,Civ 4 and such. [taqinaka]
I think there is no age limit with that. It depends on the persons, I he/she feels fun or exited playing games, Go ahead play games. The important thing is that your happy. ^^ [eric_5104]
