I am now the proud owner of Guitar Hero 3. It's a surprise for my boys for when they return on Wednesday from a trip to their grandparents' house. But who am I kidding? I bought it for me too. I've heard nothing but GOOD things about the game, and couldn't wait to try it out for myself.
So far, I've only done the tutorial, but I'll try a song or two tomorrow when I've had a bit of a sleep. And maybe tomorrow night I'll play some more with a friend, because I like trying to kick his butt (in games) whenever I can!;)
Have you ever played Guitar Hero? Is there any one that is a favourite to you? Do you have any tips or suggestions to share?

I love Guitar Hero, CanadaGal! I started it when I was tutoring a boy and I noticed that he had it. He let me try it and I was hooked so I got it for my boys, heehee. I have seen Guitar Hero 3 in stores and it looks pretty cool. [Transdisc]
It's kind of like air guitar, yes. Only it's a video game controller shaped like a guitar, with the neck strap and everything. Along the upper frets of the neck where strings would normally be, are 5 different coloured buttons. You watch the screen and are supposed to press the right button when the time comes, to help play notes and chords in various rock songs. The better you play, the more points you get. [CanadaGal]
I've never played the game myself but my kids have it and LOVE IT..especially my son..he's a total nut for it LOL and he's pretty damn good at it too! [Ravenladyj]
You should try it out hon. I figured it would be a good opportunity for me to have something to do with my sons, more along their preferred genres. lol. [CanadaGal]
Oh I LOVE guitar hero. When I first saw it I thought "what a stupid idea for a game" but oh my gosh was I wrong. The neighbor bought it and brought it over once and I was hooked. I keep thinking about buying it or Rock Band, but then my pocket book protests and I relent. [Myrrdin]
After taxes, it was just over $100 at walmart. After I did some price searches on ebay yesterday, I decided on getting brand new from a local store instead. If you're lucky, I'll let you play with me. But you have to be nice. And I'm not sure if that's something you're capable of, to be quite honest. [CanadaGal]
I have played it and I would certainly like to try it out with a Guitar controller since I've been using the joy pad up to now. I know that it would really be nice with a guitar controller since I'm already having fun with the joy pad. I like how Slash plays the guitar ^0^ My tip would be simple, do the tutorials of the new songs that you have unlocked through the game as well as from the store ^_^ go with the rhythm as much since that's more easier than to anticipate the markers with your own. And last but not the least, enjoy ^___^ [ratyz5]
You're welcome. :) [CanadaGal]
All the kids in our house love GH, I tried it, wow I suck! They even have parties now, there is a singer, a drummer, a guitarist, I think its called band hero, or something like that :) They really enjoy it, and my girls just love to sing, and the guys love to play the drums, they said it was pretty hard though (lol)but it's the next thing :) [Herbyjan]
That is "Rock Band" that includes other instruments. That would be a lot of fun too. I haven't looked into that one yet. You suck at the game? Kids are supposed to surpass us in video game play anyways. Lol! [CanadaGal]
happyI have played the first two, and my hubby has the third one too, but i haven't gotten around to playing that just yet.. I like the game.. but it takes a lot of concentration and patience!! I am sure once your boys get back you will get SO SICK of all the songs being played OVER AND OVER again if you are anywhere near the tv its being played on lol. [Sissygrl]
haha.. I don't doubt it. Thankfully, we have 2 ps2 systems in the house, so I can send them downstairs with it if it's bugging me upstairs on the main floor. [CanadaGal]
I watch the kids play, I am for some reason unable to play. The distractions in the background are too much for my eyes. The kids used to play Guitar Hero daily. They play Rock Band now. It allows for 4 people to play at once, in the same fashion of Guitar Hero. There are vocals, bass and electric guitar and drums. Its great fun to watch all of them play at once. They get their friends over and take turns at each instrument. I wish I could play, but its too much for me. I may try again if no one is around to laugh at me. [cheesehater]
I want to get Rock Band next, if everyone does well with Guitar Hero. With me and 3 kids, it would be a perfect family activity. :) [CanadaGal]
I'm not very big into video games or video game consoles. They just never were my thing. I didn't have much interest in them. This could be because my grandparents (they raised me) thought they were pointless and a waste of money, so I never had one growing up. But my husband, he loves video games. He works at an electronics store and loves to play video games. He has the playstation three and several games for it. He dosen't have guitar hero, but he has Rockband, which I'm pretty sure is really similar to guitar hero except that rockband allows you to play with drums, a microphone and a bass guitar in addition to the regular guitar. He seems to enjoy playing it with his friends. I played it a few times, but like I said, video games aren't my thing. [Samanthavv]
I've never been much of a gamer myself. And after playing some GH3 last night, I found out I need a LOT of practice! lol! [CanadaGal]
LOL I Like to play guitar hero :):):) It's my son's game, actually it was a gift for him, but I'm not sure that he plays it any more than I do heheheh I don't know about suggestions, except to start and let it go without concentrating too much on what you're doing or else you'll mess up. WE've been having quite some great times, playing it. Both with my kids and their friends. WE also have rock band. We love both and play it often. [arkaf61]
Yes rock band is great when there's more of us whereas guitar hero can be played nicely alone. [arkaf61]
Yes and I love it! I got it for christmas and when I haven't played it in a while I actually get withdrawal symptoms. Everyone who has played it at my house says how cool it is. My mum even tried it and said "I have to stop now, this is addictive!" it really makes you feel like a rockstar, and as a drummer who can't play guitar for cr@p, I get to try out all my rockstar moves while making a cool sound with a (fake) guitar! [coffeeshot]
I can definitely see how it can be addictive... although having to hear the same songs over and over again may get on my nerves sooner rather than later. [CanadaGal]
i have tried playing guitar hero.. it is very hard!!! my brother loves it and plays it all the time. he is soo funny at time he feels his a real guitarist. [chiyosan]
My lover was playing it last night, and he thought he was a rockstar too. It was a hoot to watch. :D [CanadaGal]
I HATED Guitar Hero up until New Years, when my friends brought it to the party. I'm hooked now, I want to get it for the Wii but unfortunately I can't afford it. Though once I can, I WILL Be buyying it! UNfortunately I can only play on medium and I only play when my nephew brings it over, but I'm addicted when he brings it here. I have no tips or suggestions though! Sorry! lol However have fun! [katisaurus]
I'm not addicted yet, but I can see it happening, once I get a better hang of the guitar. [CanadaGal]
i own guitar her 2,3 and rock band. i would have to say that i play these games the most out of all the games i own. i would suggest starting at easy and working your way up. another suggestion is to not use cheats because it takes away from the fun of the game. [kielty93]
There are cheats?? I didn't know that. And yes, I'm starting at easy. I'm having trouble with it too. lmao! [CanadaGal]
We own Guitar Hero 1 and 2 for the Playstation 2. I have only played the second one. I am pretty good on easy and ok on medium setting. We also just got Rockband for the XBox 360. The drums are REALLY hard, I don't like singing but I get in the high 90 percentile on easy. I think it is because I have played Guitar Hero is why. I stink on medium though! I haven't played Guitar Hero in quite some time so I think I just need to practice! Both games are really fun! I think we will probably get Guitar Hero 3 for the Xbox 360 when we slow down playing Rockband. A new version of Guitar Hero is coming out soon. It will be all Aerosmith. [moneyandgc]
I'm amazed at the popularity of the game.... but it really is a lot of fun. I'm not sure I like Aerosmith enough that I'd want to have that game when it comes out. But I know some people who would kill for it. lol. [CanadaGal]
I played it and like it, i dont own it though but will one day. i cant go over easy b/c there is just to many buttons to go mediuem or hard. i love it though and it makes you think your a rockstar for a small moment [libertarianfreedom21]
I hope to get past easy, and I'm hoping that my past music history (playing double bass for 7 yrs) will help me to achieve that goal faster. [CanadaGal]
My boyfriend and my brother play a lot and they really enjoy it. As for me, I played it a few times but I really prefer playing the Wii. [ChattyCathy]
I haven't tried Wii yet, but it looks like a lot of fun! :) [CanadaGal]
I have me and my sisters are all poor but we went in on the system....the wii...and now we fight over who gets it for what weekend. lol. We have our own guitars and play online with others and stuff we love it! I like the wii in general but I find myself playing guitar hero mostly. [babystar22]
lol... I rock too. I even went out and bought a used copy of Guitar Hero II last week... so now we have more songs to fiddle around with. :D [CanadaGal]
NO. I never play this game before, but for sure I will give it a try. [nyumix]
It's a lot of fun, and easier when you know the song you're trying to play. [CanadaGal]
I've never tried playing guitar hero, but I've seen people playing it and I think it's really cool! I really want to get one for myself, but when I looked up the price ina game shop in our town center oh man!!! It cost like £50 for the whole thing. But ughh!! I don't care, that price is not gonna hold me back, I'll have a bit of patience to save up. And SOON! I'm gonna rock it up with guitar hero, sooonn!! watch out for my another post when I've actually got it! [jvego7426]
I am indeed excited about it! If only I have the money now, I won't think twice in buying it! If that's the price I gotta pay, then why not? But, you're right there's gotta be a cheaper deal somewhere! Alright! I'm off to ebay now! thanks! =] [jvego7426]
I bought it!!!! my husband and I were been going to shops were you could try it for a month before we finally decided to buy it.... we didn't want to buy it at first because we're not kids but it was to amazing so that we decided we must have it! In Italy GH3 is unfortunately avalable with only one model of guitar.... I've seen someone fantastic avalable only in USA [pegaxs]
The guitar that came with my GH3 is a wireless one. It's not going through the batteries like I thought it would either, which is nice. [CanadaGal]
I bought GH 3 for the Wii just because I have heard so many people talking about how fun it was...and I got addicted! It is an awesome game...though I am stuck on "easy" lol I just don't have the coordination to add in my pinky. We liked GH 3 so much that we went out and bought GH 1 and 2 for my husband's PS2. They are not as good as GH 3 in my opinion. I can't wait until the Aerosmith version comes out in June! [Kecia08]
I ended up buying GH2 for my ps2 as well. I agree, in some ways it's not as good as GH3, but it does have some other features that I didn't notice on GH3 that I like, like when in practice mode, you can choose to play guitar OR bass. [CanadaGal]
