Do You Know How To Play Chess How Good Are You

I have learned how to play chess when I was about 7 years old. I slowly became a better player as I grow until my college days. Through those years, I have joined and participated in different tournaments, inside and outside of school. Actually I used to be a chess varsity when I was in college. I can say I'm just an average chess player, not that good but also not that bad. I have rarely played chess after college. It's because I was became busy in other matters. But I still love playing chess. Actually I have thought to start this discussion because I have played chess a while ago in YahooGames. Lol! How about you, do you know how to play chess? How good are you in this game?

It's ok if you don't know how to play chess. It will not really affects your life. Lol! But if you really want to learn how to play chess, you should first know how each chess piece moves. And keep on practising. If we will be able to meet, I will teach you how to play chess. Lol! Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I learned chess from my father when I was 5 years old and I can say that chess can help stimulate my mind. I am still a novice and not that great with it. I am hoping that someday I will be able to play with my kids. [entrepinoy]
I see. The one that taught me is my older brother. Yes, chess really needs our minds to function. It helps us to think wisely and make a better decision. Yes, you should also teach your kids chess because it will help them to be smart. Me too, in the future, when I will have my own kids, I will also teach them how to play chess. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

hey mark! i learned how to play chess when i was a kid too. my cousins taught me. when i was in high school i tried out for the varsity. however, my bestfriend won. well, we were the ones who played against each other so we pretty much know each others weakness. it was a best of 5 game and i won 2 games and he won 3. so he was the one who became the varsity player. i guess i could say i'm an average chess player too. [tomjoad]
Oh, you almost got it. Just decided by one close game. But he's your bestfriend so it's not that sad. I'm not also varsity when I were in highschool, I were just participated in intramurals, I almost got a grandslam, or 3 consecutive championships, but I failed when I were on fourth year, I just got second place. But it's ok. Chess is really a nice game. Thank you for your response. Happy mytLotting! [markmoney]

Hi, friend. I learnt to play chess when i was 10 (now i am 18). That time i played chess mostly with my cousins, and that continued for around five years. I played at least a thousand games with a variety of players ranging from my friends to the local experts, and i remember losing only thrice. So, you can guess how much i love the game, in post part due to the mind power it requires. When i was around 15, i abandoned it due to lack of time and because all those who played with me were seniors and they settled far off from the place. Now, a year and a half ago, i got a laptop, and i started playing chess titans, but not very often. I think i am not that good at it, as i often face difficulty defeating the final level. But, the tragic state is that chess is not considered a very popular game here and faces lack of support, even when the World chess champion and the Junior World chess champion are from our country, i.e. India. This caused me never participate in official competitions and that sometimes hurts me. Keep up your skills. Happy Mylotting!!happy [THEcreationist]
Thanks, friend, for your words of appreciation. I never knew that we can play chess at yahoo games. I will certainly spare some time for it. Thanks for your comments. Happy Mylotting!! [THEcreationist]

I know how to play chess.. I really proud know where's the place and how horse, queen, king and other's move,,hahaha.. At that time I was in my 2nd grade junior high school and one of my class mate win chess tournament. I ask him to teach me and beat me. Yea,he beat me in 30 seconds.. Since that day I try to play chess and I can win if I play with my brother,,hahaha.. I don't really fond of chess, but I can play and I understand it.. [ChrysanTflower]
Haha, at least you know how to play and you understand the game. You just need more practise and for sure you will be a better chess player. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

Just like you i learned to play chess when i was seven years old, but as a girl i'm not that good my brother was joining before chess tournaments. My father taught me how to play chess he was really good he has a book a compilation of all the good players before. [angime]
It's good to hear that we have learned chess at the same age. I also has several chess books and know some openings like Kings Gambit, Sicilian Defense, Ruy Lopez, etc. Hehe. It's really fun to play chess, it uses our minds. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I know how to play chess, my father thought how to play when I was still young. My elder always defeats me when we play chess. I am not that good in playing this, and I never enjoyed that much while playing this game cool. It's like I'm getting bored while playing chess confused. [brienn]
It's good that you know how to play chess. Yes, it gets boring specially if you always lose. You should be in fresh and relax mood in playing chess because you need to think a lot. It uses our minds and it's tiring. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I know how to play chess but I can say that I'm not good at it. I just know the moves. I learned playing chess when I was in elementary. In highschool I tried to join the tryouts in our school. But I didn't stay too long in that coz I really don't have the edge in this game though. [jenskye03]
Yes, you can do other stuffs that is more meaningful and more suitable to a girl like you. And just remember, if you play chess, don't use clock. LoL! Just kidding! Have a nice day! Take care! [markmoney]

If I am not mistaken, I learned to play chess at the aged of 6-7. Dad used to teach me and my siblings, and now everyone in the family knows how to play chess even the new generations, my nephews. In my opinion, chess is a great recreational activity to pass on to younger generations because it trains them to use their brains and be sharped. I think you must be above average instead of just a normal chess player because you have participated in many chess tournaments. Me, just average. Anyway, have you ever won something? Share with us your victory... I never entered any tournaments though, never thought of it hehe... [corrycrystal]
Wow, a clan of chess players. It's really nice to play with your family and relatives, it just gives you more bonding. Yes, chess is really a great game and a good past time, it makes people think wiser and faster. Yes, I partipated in different tournaments but i just won on small ones. I just got usually medals and trophies. I'm not really that good. I'm sure if you have joined tournaments, you could've been won also. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

One day my teacher said to me, that a strong chess player will be able to make planning for his life, as a strong chess player who already know the steps to 40th. Just as the planning of his life, he already knows what will be like. Because it eventually i learned to be a chess player, unfortunately i can not be a chess player who respite. I can only play chess but not experts. [terapidoe]

I really enjoy chess but have not played in a long time! I like it because it is a thinking game. I am not really that good. Mostly I have played with people and didn't have to do much offense, just play until they beat themselves. Every once in awhile I have played a good difficult game! [macdingolinger]
Yes, chess is really a nice game, it uses our minds. So you like defense more, maybe you prefer to play with black pieces than the white ones. Maybe you like counter attack. You are good. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I do know how to play chess. I enjoy playing it as a board game and online on the Internet. Sadly, I am not that good of a player. I really like to watch the chess experts play in tournaments with timers. They move super fast and are really good at the game. [chunijole]
Yes, it's fun to play chess, it requires a lot of emotions. It's exciting. Yes, I alike like watching the experts play with timers. If the flag in their clock is almost down, or about 2 minutes left, you will see their blinding speed. Super fast every move. I have also tried and joined chess tournaments with clocks. And yes, I also move fast when my clock is nearly going down. You should not panic, and you should think fast, or else, you will commit error and you will lose. Lol! Chess is really fun. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

i know how to play chess, my 2 cousins has been a champion in playing chess in our locality, but i never tried joining contests although i often defeated them when we are playing..haha, i will say, i am just an average player of the chess, knows how to move and do the mate thing, but i am not that good..hehe [stricken43]
nakakahiyang sumali..haha, maybe next time, I'll try joining tournaments..haha, who knows it might be my break..hehe [stricken43]

Well when I was younger I used to play a lot of chess. My brother taught me as he's a champion chess player. I am probably much better at checkers than chess.. [jellymonty]
Your brother must really be good. He's so lucky for having that ability. He should keep it up. Checkers is also good, it just needs lesser thinking than chess. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

My husband taught me how to play chess about 10 years ago. We only played for a couple of weeks. So by now I've certainly forgotten how to play. And we even have a nice chess board with glass pieces. [windymyre]
I see. Wow, that's a nice chess board and pieces. You should use it. But it is also a nice display. Just play if you have free time. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I am not good at playing chess at all. If I'm not mistaken, I only learned playing chess when I was in high school, and I played for a while only. I am generally not good at playing any strategic games. I learned playing Chinese chess when I was 5 years old, as my father always played Chinese chess with my elder brother. But they didn't really like to play with me, because I didn't have any strategy while playing chess, it's kind of boring playing with me, I suppose. lol [kaka135]
Hahaha. Well, at least you know how to play and you understand how the game works. It's ok. Chess is just a good past time. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

i can play chess though i am not a champion. i even taught chess to my son who in turn won a runnerup prize in our Officer's Club competition. playing chess is quite interesting and we can improve our thinking capacity [vathsala30]
Wow, you are a good mentor. You made your son won. Lol! You must be good also. Yes, chess is a good game, it improves our mental ability. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

wow! a chess varsity player... that's pretty neat! hehehe i started playing chess in primary school, only because someone said i couldn't do it and i was challenged. -lol- but i started enjoying it when i started understanding the rudiments of the game. i'm such a fan of board games. that's how most of my family members bonded before... until we learnt card games. -lol- i competed in highschool for school level competitions and won. i don't play it that well, perhaps it was such my luck that my opponents didn't play well also. -lol- it's been a long time since i did play the game. my younger brother is actually a better player in it. but i still consider it fun. :) [mylesnarvaez]
i know you are a better chess player being varsity and all. besides i also know you won't settle with no. 2 when it's against me. -lol- [mylesnarvaez]

I know how to play it ....i learned from one of my uncle when i was 8....i play it regularly since then....but i am not a pro or something ....still learning....i have never participated in any tourney or something like that....i play it for fun only....provides a good exercise for my brain.... [suparnodatta]
I see. It's good that you know how to play chess. It is really a nice game. It requires mental strength and ability. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I learned chess from my friends. Its really a great game to be played indoor. Its not a game to relax your brain but to stimulate it. Now a days i play chess atleast 3 days a week. [Koollook]
It's good that you also like playing chess. There's also chess online, at YahooGames, you can play with it, against different people from around the world. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

yes i know how to play chess but i am not so skilled but i know allthe rulls and regulations of it. i have not participated in any tournament but when it is summer here, i play it with my friends under a big tree near to my home. lol [shibham]
Yes, chess is really a fun game. It's a good past time. If you keep on practicing and playing, you will be a better chess player. Try also to play online, at YahooGames, you will play there against real people from different countries. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I learnt the game when in my early teens and my parents taught me how to play chess. I love the game as it stirs your mind and with every move you have to think sharper than your opponent. ninja I would call myself average - where i do play sharp moves but generally lose at the end. I know how to drag the game too wink. However, i like playing with people who are good at the game instead of fooling around with kids who have just begun to know the game w00t [divkris]
In playing chess, you should think sharp and smart all through the game, because one mistake can be enough for you to lose. You should maintain the strength of your forces, both offense and defense. Yes, it's better to play against people with higher mental ability, it will give you more challenge and learning. Your skills will also be enhanced. Thak you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I certainly do, as soon as I was old enough to understand how the pieces moved my dad taught me how to play chess and I would say from that point on to my late teens I would play a few games of chess with him most days. Like yourself I have entered a few tournaments, main local, and didn't too bad beating many so called chess experts but never actually winning the whole tournament. These days I don't play so often but my game is still pretty good. My trouble is I don't like playing computer chess as I like the actual interaction with your opponent. But I do resort to an occassional computer game when I get the urge. [thedailyclick]
I noticed that most chess players have learned how to play chess during their early age. Maybe that is the best time to learn, since the earlier the better. I can see that you are a good chess player since you can be able to beat other competitors in the tournament. Yes, it's better and more comfortable to play chess in actual than in computer. But if you play often in computer, you will also use to it in no time. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

maybe i can say i know. but not good at it. wink i learned it when i was a child. then i always failed when playing with my brother. lol when in the university, i always played online in the computer, so, better and better then. but after i worked. i never played it again. i'm afraid i forget it a lot. what a pity. sad [yolanda19191]
It's good that you know how to play chess. Not many girls know it. It's good that you became better and better as you grow. Chess also needs practice, and if you don't play in long time, you will not forget the game but you will lose some sharpness. It's ok, chess is just a good past time. Don'e get pity. Lol! Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I learned to play chess out of curiosity. I am not really good at it since I get headache thinking of what moves to make. So if you ask me if what level I play, I guess It would be safe to say that I am still on the beginners level. I have not played any competition. So its just for fun. Well, chess is such a great game and I really admire those who are really good at it.happy [jpso138]
Yes, it can really gives a headache to the one playing it especially you are playing against a tough opponent. It requires mental toughness and advance thinking. At least, you know how to play it. That's good. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

Hi there! I love playing chess and it used to be one of my favourite indoor games, because it gives us a kind of mental exercise and sharpens our skills. It is always exciting to calculate move by others. I do not get much time to play the same now a days. [dpk262006]
Yes, I agree with you. [dpk262006]

I love to play chess. I think it is really very interesting, you could get a lot of fun from it. However, I am not very good at it. Only sometimes play it with my friends, it helps us to kill time. [colydf]
Yes, it is interesting indeed. It's really fun to play chess as it is my favorite board game. Even you are not that good, what important is you know how to play it and you understand the game. Chess is really a good past time. I'm glad you are also playing chess. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I played chess whenever i find time to mingle with my uncles. They are the ones who teach how to play it.Eventually i learned some different techiniques. But not as good as the professionals. [vzerocool]
Playing chess with older people is really challenging and exciting. You are the underdog and it's an honor if you beat them. Playing with them make us also learn some techniques and moves. Chess is really a nice game. I'm glad you also enjoy playing it. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I play chess rarely. But used to play it often in school days. I have never taken part in tournaments though.I like to play it very much. [subha12]
I'm glad to know that you really like playing chess. I hope you can be able to join tournaments someday, because I know you have a skills and you may win the championship. It's really fun and exciting to play chess. It exercises our minds. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I really enjoy playing chess. I'm pretty good at playing chess. Maybe mylot should put some chess on here to pass the time while we discuss. This would be awesome. Do you know how to do the notations? We can get a game coming along here and people can contribute but can't make the move =P. God bless [doggyhouz]
I am glad to know that you are a good chess player. I agree, if myLot will put a chess game feature here, it will be more exciting and fun to be here. I know there are also many chess enthusiasts here like the two of us, it will really be in favor for us. We will be able to compete against players from different countries. That's so exciting! Yes, I know chess notations, both the old one and the new one. Both p-k4 and e4. I already experienced playing in a tournament with clock, and chess notation is required. So in that game, you should know well how to write your move and how to think fast, because if not, your clock will keep on moving and you will lose. I can't still decide if I prefer to have coaches in a game, I think, for me, coaching is not allowed because the players will know the blinded move of his opponents. Maybe viewers can just cheer the players but not suggest a move. Your idea of putting a chess game is really good. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! God bless! [markmoney]

yes i know how 2 play it but mayb i dont play it well.here in prc,'chinese chess' is much more famous and known,i thk playing chess can help us practise our wisdom.cheershappy [dafengluobote]
Yes, chinese chess is more popular there and more played than chess. Playing chess really makes our minds think. It is a good exercise for our mind. Thank you for your response. Happy myLotting! [markmoney]

I started playing little late (at the age of 20). Played a lot initially. Then stopped playing when became busy at my job. Recently came across a chess site & started playing again. It is an excellent site. We can play live chess, online chess. Also we can participate in tournaments. You can also register there. The URL is in my profile. If you have already registered, give me the username so that we can play each other. [shajian]
