Do You Have Any Issues With Your Wii

We bought a Wii 11 months ago, and a few weeks ago it started "not being able to read the disc" So my husband called the 800 number and started to explain the problem to them and before he could finish she said "yeah the hard drive is bad" my husband asked how she knew that and she said "well we haven't found a hard drive that works well with the Wii yet" so apparentlly there is a one year warrenty and we have to send it to California (they do pay for the shipping) and they will have it for about two weeks. Has anyone had this happen to them? We don't really play our Wii all that much. Do you have any other issues that you would like to tell us about so we can be on the "look out"? Thanks for responding!

Well, sometimes my Wii won't read certain game discs so I have to power off and eject the disc, then put it back in. I take good care of my games, too. Also, when I was playing Kid Icarus recently, the game froze up and wouldn't let me create a save point. I try to be really careful when I put the discs in too. I did, however, get my Wii at Wal-mart, so that says a lot! [Marcola]

So far so good with my Wii. I wonder if it is just that I don't play it enough, but my Wii is over a year old and it works just fine. The only problem I have with it from time to time is that the internet connection is a bit stodgy. The internet connection has nothing to do with the Wii though. I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for that problem though. [krebstar5]

hey zeph, when we bought ours, the guy told us the hard drive wears out and to get the warrenty. he said just to make sure your hands arent sweaty when we played it....I guess that has something to do with it? we didnt really understand then, cause we didnt know what it was yet. weve had ours about a year, and so far nothings happened except lately its been disconnecting from the internet. But I dont know if thats the wii or the server. hope yours gets going again soon!! [dragoncatcher420247]
We have the pirates too and it is hard, but we got it on sale at the toy store for $20 [ZephyrSun]

I can't believe that they are having so many problems with all of these new video game systems. The X-box 360 is notorious for having major problems, and Microsoft admits that they have issues, and Nintendo knows that they have major problems, yet they continue to make more and more of them. It is so sad when you spend hundreds of dollars on something that the company knows will break, you are just lucky if it breaks before the first year. I like my WII alot, but it is sad that they don't care that their product is not going to last long at all. [toledomark1975]
I agree, it does stink that they don't care about the quality of the products! [ZephyrSun]

As far as I know of the Wii specs it does not contain a hard drive. It has a internal Flash memory of 512mb. Perhaps the customer service representative meant the disc drive. Even then, never heard of this issue. [Lock_Heed]
I really have no idea. Not, that it really matters, I just want to get it fixed in case they come out with some games that I want to play happyhappy [ZephyrSun]

Hey Zephyr, I have to say thanx for the heads up on that, I have thought about if we decide to upgrade our game console, but we are in no hurry, my kids want a Wii, but given that we have lots of games, and things for the PS2, and its a very functional game system, I'm definitely in no hurry to upgrade I think they all have issues, however this is the first hardware issue I've heard with the Wii Glad its under warranty. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
I haven't had any problems with the PS2. My children will pick it or the Xbox over the Wii. If I were you I would wait until they figure this whole hard drive thing out, because the woman on the phone talked like it will need to keep being replaced until the find a drive that works for the Wii. [ZephyrSun]

i don't have a wii actually as i don't like to play games... so i don't really know that they have the problem with the hard drive... i think they should have been honest and tell the customers at the first time before customers bought it... not after we buy it and experience problem... i think it is being dishonest... just my opinion though... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]
I agree completely. Thank you for your great point! [ZephyrSun]

We've had our wii for about 18 months now with no real problems other than, occassionally, it will freeze and need to be reset (by which I mean switched off at the socket cos the reset button won't work). If you haven't already tried it BTW I recommend The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess - good for young and old alike! [crispa]
I loved the Zelda I am waiting for a new one. It was the most challenaging so hard it actually took me almost 100 hours to play from begining to end! [ZephyrSun]

My Wii has worked fine from the start but the main complaint I have is the memory, I need an SD card now. At least it's pretty cheat :) [Bananaman]
No, you put the Gamecube games in the same place that you put the Wii games. The SD card slot is just below it, between the power and eject button. You'll need an SD card if you buy lots of VC games. [Marcola]

No, we have not had a problem yet. That is horrible! I have had mine about 11 months now too and I just hope nothing happens with it. I have bought and downloaded a bunch of games and I would hate to lose all of that. Please let us know how it turns out for you and if it does only take 2 weeks. Did you buy any software, I'm sorry, Wiiware for it? Will they put that back onto the hard drive for you? Did they say if they are giving you a new system or new hard drive or are they fixing the old one? Thanks so much for the warning and sharing that with all of us! Have a great day! :D [schulzie]
They are giving us a new drive, I will have to update, when it comes back. The children cried as it left this morning. LOL Everything is suppose to come back the way it left (as long as FedEx doesn't break it) except for the new drive. It's so sad because we rarely play it, but maybe that's our problem. Hope nothing back happens to yours but I hope if it does it happens with in the next month so they cover it. [ZephyrSun]

No that hsn't happend to me but mine is new it is good to know though... i will make sure that i am concious that the warrenty is only for 1 year and make sure i get a new one if mine doesn't last! One year isn't very long anyway. [dont_pick_your_nose]
Yeah one year isn't long for something that is a little expensive. Best thing to do is call them as soon you have any problem with it. [ZephyrSun]

I can't believe you are having so many problems with your WII. It is sad that they would make a gaming system that has so many problems that the customer service people know all about it. Why don't they let all of the people that want to buy one know before they make that mistake and buy one. It is sad that we don't have people to tell us about this stuff, we have to figure it out on our own. [markss1975]
Yeah it really stinks. Just think of all the problems that people had with windows ME LOL... Thanks for responding! [ZephyrSun]
