Do They Make You Sick

I used to be able to play the old nintendo systems for hours and hours without a problem. But with today's video games and the graphics, I can sometimes end up feeling sick because of them. I have a bit of an issue with motion sickness, so I can't watch someone else play a game or I'll get sick. Recently hubby and I were playing Halo 3 and there was a part where we had to hop in a car that was controlled by a computer player. The car was going forwards and backwards, and I couldn't control the direction it went. After a few moments I became sick from the motions and had to stop playing. I'm okay if I can control the motions and the direction we go, but if it goes to fast that can get me sick as well. Are there any video games that make you sick because of the speed or graphics or motions?

Well, first of, let's just say, thank God that my motion sickness related to games is not that intense, since that's one of my favorite things to do, gaming, that is. However, there is only one culprit game, that makes me wanna close it, lie on my bed, look at the ceiling and just breathe deep, so I dont' end up barfing. It was tony hawk's underground, I loved the game, but I just couldn't play it for more than 15 minutes, especially when he held the board in his hands and starts walking, it just makes me feel all dizzy and nauseous. I guess the screen moves around too much, which means I move it around too much, but there's really no other way to play the game, is there? Thank the lord, that it's only been that one, though, and none of my favorite ones. And I too get sick when watching other's play, well not really sick, I just get annoyed and bored, and would rather be playing myself, he he. [vega83]

kats, I haven't been playing video games. But I also have motion sickness at times. OR mine might be called inner ear or vertigo - who knows. Anyway, we were watching a movie other night (Dark Knight), and they kept moving the camera in a circle and sometimes very fast. I was sitting here, about to get sick. I told my grandson, if they didn't stop moving the camera around and around rather than person to person, I would have to quit watching that movie. It was actually making me drunk and I would probably have ended up being very sick! [Barb42]
Well, I had one of the spells this morning with a headache. I took a motion sickness pill and two tylenols and sat in my chair and went to sleep. It's terrible when you want to walk sideways and get that sick feeling! [Barb42]

The same thing happens to me. We have an xbox. Pretty much anything like that that has fast movement in it makes me feel sick. I can't watch my husband play. Even if I play it bothers me some. I think part of it though is I get so into the game that my breathing slows and it makes me sick. We play serious sam alot. I can't watch my husband play because he is all over the place. But i still play because its fun lol. [ravinskye]

No I don't play them that much to really know whether they would make me sick or not. But I never thought I would wish sickness on my kids but I wish they had a little motion sickness so I didn't have to fight the battle of prying them out from in front of it all the time! lol [fasttalker]

I don't play video games, but my son in law plays them a lot. Occasionally I watch them like little movies while he plays, and I can see why that happens to you. It seems there are a number of them that would sure make me dizzy if I weren't looking away a lot. I should ask him about that -- he hasn't complained of it. [CremeAndSugar]
My husband plays games more often than I do and he never gets sick, so it's just me in this house at least. [katsmeow1213]

I don't play video games really. I play games on my computer now, I used to play the old Nintendo system too along with Sega. I have never had problems with getting sick from anything thou. Of course this was when I loved roller coasters and such and the thought of them now makes me sick! lol [Ithink]
Yeah I don't think I would like that! [Ithink]

Well thank god I thought I was the only one! I don't think people believe me when I say that these new video game systems and the games for those systems make me pretty sick. I can't watch people play some games because just watching makes me sick. I was pretty worried about getting a Nintendo DS because I was afraid that those games would make me sick but so far, I'm doing OK with the DS. Not really having any problems with any of the games that I play but I'm not playing anything with any really crazy graphics yet. Whenever I play some games, they make my head hurt and they make me kind of naseous. I have to quit playing and get something to drink and sometimes I have to lay down for awhile. Sometimes I can get it to go away easily sometimes it takes quite awhile. I do sometimes get motion sick in the car too so I know it's just not video games that cause it. [highflyingxangel]
That's pretty much what happens to me too. Some games are worse than others. Some games I can play for hours before I feel anything, some games I get sick the moment it's turned on. But it's always worse if I'm watching someone else play and not controlling the movements myself. [katsmeow1213]

I don't play video games enough to notice. I played them when I was younger, but that was when the graphics were not as good. The graphics in some games now might be enough to make me sick though. [lilybug]

You an me both sister I get sick when I play those driving games with my teenage son I find myself leaning to the right when I go around a right hand corner and when I go off the road an end up floating or flying off the freeway overpass onto the ground I feel like I am truely falling LOL. I had to stop playing because I was getting car sick, plus he didn't want me to play because I was too easy to beat lol. [Amberina]

There are several games that we can't have in the house because they make us sick. I have a son who has epilepsy and we are very, very cautious about the games we have in the house. [mynameismine]

There is actually one game that makes me feel sick. Its Quake 2. I don't know why but I simply start to feel bad after playing it for just a few minutes which is strange considering that thers not really anything so special about the game that I could think of that could make me sick. bah, I just hope that I won't have those problems with other games. That could be a awful nightmare for a gamer. Getting sick of videogames,ugh.. >.> [Takashy]

i don't really like to play games... in fact, i hardly play one... the only game that i love playing in the past is mario bross and sometimes tetris... that's about it... and with the PC games, i only like puzzle bubble, spider solitaire and pinball... that's about it... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]

Ya, I do get motion sickness from the graphic games and plus my eyes hurt because the game moves at a fast rate of speed too. [chunijole]

i never got sick looking at a game, but for my wife during pregancy she couldnt play halo as well. she would get sick on almost any game i played. But thats not un heard of there is many people that cant take the motions of video games. [stevenfitz]

I can relate to you 100% on this. Halo 3 has got to be one of the worse games to make you sick.....I can't play or watch it. My son LOVES that game, I leave the room if he is going to play it. My husbands the same way to with that game....I think that the old nintendo system the graphics were not as good, and now with the xbox360 and wii and whatever else is out there, that graphics are SOOOO GOOD, it makes a huge difference.....It is even worse if my son wants to play on our 53 inch tv....you really have to leave the room then or you will be sick instantly. Shihtzumama [shihtzumama]
We have a 60 inch TV our games are played on, yeah that doesn't help. [katsmeow1213]

Gee... this would be bad if this happened to me when playing the game. To the best of my knowledge, I have never had this happen when I am playing one of them, but I have had to quit watching my husband play something because of this. A lot of times for me, it might be some of his driving games for sure. [KrauseHome]

I first experienced motion sickness in games when i played LAPD in Playtation. I didn't know but i was already sweating cold and my breathing's kind becoming deep. Then few more minutes, i found myself almost to the point of collapsing. I quit playing LAPD then after years and years, i played games on my computers. Still the motion sickness is there and at least now i'm aware of it so when i'm beginning to not feel well, i quit the game immediately. A friend told me that it's because of the framerate but when i play games with good framerate, the result is still the same. I only play 2D games most of the time. [modstar]

I´ve noticed that I get motion sick allot more easily since I´ve had my second child, and playing games with lots of car type movements makes me feel sick as a dog. [GreenMoo]

No, that's actually never happened to me. I never even knew that could happen! I know my eyes start acting weird while I play guitar hero but motion sickness. That's a new one. I never get any reactions to speed or graphics or motions in video games. I hope you learn to deal with it a bit better. [TrayBlaylock]

I've never had that problem in all the years I've been gaming and I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer. [Marcola]

I must say that I don't have that problem. I can play most games for hours and hours until I get sleepy.. I think that I never stop playing a game due to the fastness of graphics.. I think that only boring games will make me sick, or games for children that have to emotion.. [Anchopy]

I think that you should get a game like rock band or guitar hero. You only have to look at the controls that are coming towards you and don't have to move your eyes much. I personaly have no problem with motion sickness so I can't give you the best advise. Try going to a doctor and ask how much movment you can take before you feel sick. This could help you find wich games you can play without having a bag next to you. [Zander9510]
